Online Collaboration

Does anyone have suggestions on tools you have used to collaborate in an online environment?

Hey Al! Is there a specific type of collaboration or activity you’re trying to support?

Having breakout groups share notes/activities with a larger group. Of course, Google Docs would work, but was wondering if there are any other freely available tools.

Etherpad for notes works pretty well: https://etherpad.p2pu.org/

And Jitsi Meet for videos has been pretty good for me too: https://meet.jit.si/

You can make as many spaces in each as you need for free. Also, we did a huge project back in 2020 about resources that can be used for P2PU. I’ve forgotten where that doc is, but maybe Becky can link you to it.

One thing I did with these two was to create a main Etherpad page that linked to other Etherpad pages and linked to the Jitsi Meet videos too. So that way it’s all on one page, and I had the secondary Etherpad pages link back to the first one. It’s pretty simple to do. I created a Jitsi for each breakout session and an Etherpad for each of those sessions.

@Jordan_Draves, thank you for the suggestion! Another product that was suggested at a meeting today is Jamboard. Have you ever used this?

I’ve not heard about it until you mentioned it. However, seeing the price: “For G Suite for Education customers, Jamboard starts at USD $4,999 (includes 1 Jamboard display, 2 styluses, 1 eraser, and 1 wall mount) with a one-time management and support fee payment of USD $600.” toward the bottom of their homepage makes me cringe, even though it looks cool.

Sorry. This is the link for the software. I believe the cost is for associated hardware.

Oh! That’s pretty cool.
