New Course: How to Vote

Hi Friends, I’m forming a course on voting and I’d like to hear ideas. Of course I will bring my objective thoughts to the course, but I am not here to tell anyone who to vote for, or what party to vote for, or what ‘side’ of the spectrum to vote for. This as a skills course to be applied in any voting situation, in any country, at any time-- just like learning grammar or math. I’m looking forward to hearing any input. Thanks.

Cool, what are the key skills that you want people to learn in this course?

Quickly put: 1) develop a set of political goals and ideals, 2) evaluate candidates and proposals according to this set of goals and ideals, 3) evaluate strategic options, 4) make the selections. To illustrate this process I would adopt the policy ideals of the War on War Party (see Facebook page for War on War Party) to evaluate any election (perhaps an upcoming election somewhere in the world as chosen by the students in the class, or perhaps the recent elections in New York City which included a mayoral election, many other officials, and 6 statewide proposals). As a final project, each student could take a historical or pending election and use this technique to make a decision. Students would at least gain a rapid assessment technique and could also go further by developing their own set of goals and ideals.

Sounds interesting, I’m sure someone the http://thegovlab.org/ will be interested. @1L2P what do you think?

I’ll mention it to them. We might be able to help promote it through http://thegovlabacademy.org
